Ok...so I built it up...my dream bike. First I've got ta say...freakin' A dudes...SOOO many choices and ways to spend your money! Thanks to everyone who's participated in the forum and product reviews.
On to the bike. My old bike is the Trek 8000 hodgepodge listed here that my son is slobbering over because he's now riding a 4900 that's too small for him. The 8000 has been excellent and Trek has stood behind their product on two different occasions so I graduated to the OCLV carbon frameset. XTR is definitely the best drive train out there...if you don't mind giving the 'man' soo much money...I try not to think about it. I struggled with going hydraulic and still might (Formula K24's), but for now I bolted up the bullet proof BB7's.
Dave at Speedream.com built up the ZTR 355's with DT Swiss 240s. black spokes and yes...red nipples (nipples should always be red). I bailed on the infinitely light weight SID for the infinitely adjustible U-Turn with pop lock because I'm a hefty 195lb rider..now I hear the SID will have 32mm stanchions as well...oh well.
My static parts choices were guided by the notion of super light not stupid light...Thompson stem, masterpiece seatpost (I swap with a CaneCreek Thudbuster when I ride our local rock garden trail "Hamilton Creek", WTB stealth saddle with Easton's EC-90 bar, Chris King headset...I almost went Chris King hubs because they come in red anodized but I didn't want to scare off all the wild life. I did walk on the wild side with Salsa Rasta skewers though. Panaracer Smoke/Dart combo with Maxxis fly weight tubes round it out...yeah the rims are tubeless compatible and I might go that way some day but for now I'm more interested in low rotating weight...I just don't have problems with flat tires or traction.
