The tubing choice and shape is meant to give a small level of vertical compliance. The idea has been around in many other applications, but Jeff is really pioneering this idea for bikes. Check this video of Jeff rippin'it on these bikes: http://www.jonesbikes.com/update/video/jones3Dride.mov

vertical compliance. The top tube/seatstays are a long lever. reminiscent in concept to the ibis bow-ti.
