GT ID5. Manitou 4way Swinger Coil. Manitou Nixon Elite Coil. Race Face DH Cranks w/ bashring. Sram X9 rear "D"+ shifters. Titec Elnorte Bar/Stem. Hayes HFX 9 brakes. Only bits OE are the tires, saddle, front "D", and tires.
In case anyone is wondering, you CAN fit an external reservoir coil shock on a small I-drive 5 frame. It's close, but it won't hit the frame and works like butter.
The 2007's have a new Forged I-Link that won't bust like previous reviews of 2006 and older systems. Way to go GT! Finally!

Attn:Untoco. Crossroads are not a bad place to be. Kind of exciting really, not knowing what awaits. I am the same with lots of ideas for mountain bikes. Tires, Forks, Shocks, Tires....The list goes on. Fox RP3 sounds good too. Nice and light. Have a great time on your ID5 and I hope the weather is good in Moscow.

Saintowner, right now i stop on fox float rp3 (which replaced float r from stock) and i think it'll be enough for this summer.
but i'm also looking for more linear shock (without weight penalty) and the choice is very difficult:
- fox dhx5 air
- rs pearl 3.1
- or even may by fox float rp23 with AVA (or simple extended main chamber's volume)

first two are presented on our market, but list one is more likely by first look and, unfortunately, not presented here.

so, after all, i'm on the crossroad again

Attn: Il Glandiatore... A 150 will not upset the geometry gods at all. I say "Go for it!"
Your Enlglish is very good. The Tri-Ride site is really cool too. Keep having fun and keep riding that ID5.

The fork is a manitou sherman firefly plus 110\150
I have chosen this because I use the mtb to all round.. all mountain, vertiriding.
My doubt was if with 150mm I risked to upset completely the geometries of the frame.
Now that I think I have seen the ID5 of hans ray with a fox from 160mm

Thanks, I'will post a photo soon

ehmm.. excuse me for my English , I write from Italy

Glad to hear you like yours too. I was actually considering a new Marzocchi Z1 for my bike. After a few months of riding this frame now I think I'll be getting a new Pike from Rockshox. It will be the exact same travel as my Manitou Nixon. My cockpit measurements are pretty aggresive and I like a very low front end. (totally personal preference) So I'll be sticking with the 145mm. But Brian Lopes ride the new Marzocchi All Mountain forks which are 160. I've also seen pics of Jill Kintner racing an older Rockshox Ride front fork (for DH) which I believe has like 170+ mm of travel. So to make a long story short..... See if you can try before you buy and try to build your front end that best fits your personal style and maybe something that best fits the trails you ride most often. All downhill? Strecth that thing out. Mostly XC? Go with a travel adjust system and maybe something around 145 or so. Let me know what you find out and what you end up with, I'd be glad to know feedback from other ID5 owners.
Ride Free! Post some pics when you get a chance, eh?

attn: untoco. Just got off the phone with Marzocchi here in the states. Their guys say that a Roco TST R shock has an exact measurement of 7.5 inch E.T.E. Which IS what will fit in the GT I-Drive 5 frames. So if you decide to go with Marzocchi, you will need their 200x50 Roco TST R rear shock. If you decide to go with Manitou or Fox you will probably ask for the 7.5x2 size. Hope this help in your decision. Ride Free!

thanks again, it was very appreciated! i'll take a look at S frame more closely than early.
actually, i live in russia and here is no marzocchi dealer acting as a representative. all they can do is to sell me a shock and provide limited guarantee and service and nothing more. so i doubt 'bout some additional hardware except shock from their side
but i'll be waiting for marzocchi' answer to you - and i hope it can clarify the situation with roco tst r and id5 frame.

anyway, i can buy fox dhx or manitou swinger shocks
(but with manitou comes no service here, it's most pure brend in russia and no spare parts available, so if rocco will no fit in frame, i'll stop on dhx shock)

thanks!

I'm about 183cm. My riding style is aggresive and a small frame lets me use more "body english". It also lets me get my weight back faster and easier for drops and DH. Not only do I have small frame but also a 75mm stem to further aid DH and technical riding. You won't be upset with small frame, but you may find limits to medium frame. I'd go small!
As far as Eye To Eye? The stock Fox that came on the bike was an american 7.5x2. This would be close to (185-190)x50mm. I would call Marzocchi and see if their 200x50 would work for you. My Manitou came off of a 150mm freeride bike and just happened to be the right size for my GT. Travel is still 5.5 inches because the ETE and Stroke did not change. You may have to order custom mounting hardware for any given shock. Fox is not compatible with Manitou hardware so I had to have custom hardware made. If you order straight from Marzocchi, they may supply you with the proper hardware for a GT. They're good to work with. Hope this helps. Ride Free!

saintowner, thanks for your reply,
i like your version of external reservoir setup (bottom left), so if i'll stop on rocco, i'll install it in that way.
btw, i have two questions:
- what's your height, so you decide to choose S size? i'm about 175cm and it's suitable to me to use M size, but maybe S also will be enough for me for technical riding?
- what's the ETE and travel of default shock and your new manitou (is travel of rear wheel stay remain of 5.5 inches)?

thanks in advance!

A Rocco rear shock would be killer on this frame. You could probably be able to mount that shock right-side-up and with the res' to the front, just like Lopes' setup. But if not, you could always mount your shock like mine and it'll work great. Be sure when you build up yer' frame that you take the extra 20 minutes to re-build/grease the "upper/lower main pin" assemblies of the ID system. It'll save from lots of funny noises down the road. There is a service video on GTBikes.com under tech. Super easy! Looking forward to your posts of the 2.0. Thanks guys!
